A Garden Crossings new introduction for 2012, Peony Bartzella is really showing its colors. The butter yellow, 8″ double blooms load this beautiful plant full of color. Peony Bartzella has an extra long bloom time, the plants send out new growth from the side creating more blooms for later blooming. Bartzella is a new cross of the herbaceous garden peony with the woody tree peonies. Due to this excellent breeding, staking is NOT needed. ‘Bartzella‘ would be a great choice for landscape design because of its tidy habit.
Astilbe chinensis ‘Maggie Daley‘ ( False Spirea) is a long lived perennial that displays lavender pink spikes that sit high above its foliage. ‘Maggie Daley‘ blooms early to mid summer. Astilbe grow is full shade to full sun, but note that a part shade location with moist soil is where they are best suited. Dryness is not in the best interest of Astilbe.
If a BIG double Echinacea is what you are looking for Cone-fections™ ‘Hot Papaya‘ Echinacea is one to consider. The large two toned pom pom head sits atop the long ray petals. As the flower ages it continues to get bigger up to 3 “. Plant in mass for a tasteful addition to your garden, but beware you may have tons of butterflies that come to visit. Echinacea do well in full sun and can tolerate drought conditions. Make a beautiful native flower bouquet out of Echinaceas.

Sedum ‘ Autumn Charm‘ is a sport of Sedum ‘Autumn Joy‘. There are other variegated varieties out there but the consistent variegation in Sedum ‘Autumn Charm‘ is like no other. Sedum are a great addition to a full sun garden and also tolerate drought conditions. In the late summer Sedum are a natural attraction for the butterflies. Deer on the other hand will generally stay away from Sedum, deer resistant they are. Sedum are a great addition for late summer color.
