Crystal Fountain™ Clematis
Just wanted to thank you again for this order last year. I have enclosed a picture of the plant. I can’t tell you how pleased I am and how it is truly my Mother’s pride and joy.

Ice Blue™ Clematis ‘Evipo 003′
When looking over the rows and rows of Clematis I noticed this one. At first glance the large flower appeared white but upon closer inspection I noticed on the white petals had pale blue veining. Ice Blue™ Clematis is a new cultivar with 6-7″ white flowers which are frosted with a tinge of blue when it first opens. It adds a cool and refreshing look to the garden in May through June and again in September. The compact habit of Ice Blue™ makes it ideal for a container planting!
Space Filling Tip
I was talking with a customer the other day and we were discussing what you can put in the bottom of very large and or tall containers. I had mentioned putting old pots upside down to take up space or to even save packing peanuts and place them in the bottom of your pots. Both are light weight options and will save on potting soil. Then this customer said ” How about if I save my empty plastic water bottles and fill the bottom of my pot with those?” Brilliant idea I told her! Water bottles so often do not end up in the proper recycling stations. So why not recycle them in your planters! Light weight, space filler, genius idea!
Thanks Barb for this tip!
Spring is officially here! So with the spring weather right around the corner it is time for us to get out and do some spring cleaning.
To start with I recommend going through your gardens and removing any excess leaves and debris that may be laying around and covering your plants. Now is also a good time to thin out any unwanted plants from your garden. And if you have perennials that are getting to big for their location or simply are not performing the best because of size go ahead and divide them to either more to a new location or share with a gardening friend.
Another spring cleaning necessity is to trim back your ornamental grasses that you left for winter interest. Find a handy helper to hold the grass clump together and then take a large trimmers to cut through. Make sure that your little helper continues to hold the grass tops as you are cutting for clean and easy removal.
Another thing that we recommend is to prevent the weeds before they start! Our product of choice is ‘PREEN’ simply sprinkle over your garden and let it take care of preventing the weeds.
But for those of you who the weeds already have the best of, take this simple tip from our neighbor and get out the ‘Round up’! ‘Round up’ can be used on weeds that are coming up in your flower gardens, but be careful and make sure that you do not get any on your plants coming up. One thing that I have done in the past is taken kids sand buckets and placed them over any of my plants that were starting to emerge. This protected the plants but allowed me to spray the weeds around them.

Your garden may be just starting to wake up from the cold winter weather. You start to see your plants emerge, first one then two and then they all seem to be making their appearance. And then you remember this one and that one and they are know where to be found. You assume they must be dead. Don’t give up on your plants to early, some just take longer to make their spring appearance. There are some varieties like Hibiscus that are late sprouters, have patience and you will be glad you waited when you get to enjoy the great blooms in late summer.
